Greg Norman interview

Check out the May/June edition of Corduroy Lines, The online Surf Magazine features Black and White team member,Longboarder Greg Norman. http://issue5.corduroylines.com/

Greg with his all-rounder

Greg's Pro Longboard, being a Saunton and Croyde local, Greg needs boards for both extremes of surfing. I made this Pro custom with low tide Croyde in mind at only just 2.5/8" thick I hope he can keep it in one piece!

What an Easter weekend !!

I do like late Easters, great swell, some lesser known spots fired for those who know and the weather was great (Except Monday afternoon's monsoon ) It was nice to see some regular and some new customers back at the factory, makes the season kick off with a good feeling after a subdued winter.

Just one request for this summer, could everyone please make sure there's one last parking space saved for me so I can surf after work!!

2009 Longboards

I know I have been promising the new range of Longboards for some time, well I thought I would wet your appertites and include a photo to prove they are underway!
Its sunny and warm, there's a light South Easterly and a perfect little Longboard wave, where am I, in a dark cool shaping room finishing off a team longboard!!
Here I am putting the finishing touches to Greg Normans new progressive contest board, thinned out, pulled in shape, extra rocker and big concaves. Perfect for low tide Croyde!
For the traditionalists in the rack above my head is the new 2009 Classic awaiting tail block and inlay.
The 2009 Performance Noserider is already hitting the water and is proving to be a great all-rounder.
Here's Greg on his everyday board in Morocco.
For more photo's see the team members page.
Also look out for Greg's profile in the next issue of Corduroy Lines

Off Beat Kneeboards and Surfboards

Black and White can now offer the Off Beat range of Kneeboards and soon to be released stand-up boards. We have worked closely with Off Beat for a number of years providing a finishing service for their highly successful kneeboard label.

Off Beat designer Chris Cockett has been highly involved in UK Kneeboard surfing successfully competing for many years, including English and British team places. Chris has since directed his focus into board designs, producing some of the most innovative kneeboards available. Chris is well known for his accurate Dr Crox surf forecasts, which means he's out there testing boards whenever there's waves!

Watch this blog over the coming months for the new releases!

European Fish Fry Portugal 2008

The nice thing about the fish fry is the diverse possibilities of location and the people you meet. Thanks to some great organisation by Mick from Lokbox, Skelly and Jules at GS in 2007, we had a great kick start for the European Fry.
In 2008 Alexandro came up with the goods again in Portugal giving the UK and US contingent a long weekend to remember. I travelled with JP and Phil Northey (the silverback glasser) to Lisbon where we joined the crew at the party house. A few beers, none scenic tours around (and around, thanks Mick) Lisbon, surf at Ericeira, few beers, surf at Costa da Caparica. I skipped the round of golf with Nick and JP although it proved to be safer close to JP when he took his shot than 100 mts away watching (at right angle to the tee) The day of the Fry was perfect sun, the surf dropped off to about 1ft at best (still overhead for Nick!) but there was a great turn out of shapers displaying their boards and discussing designs etc with interested beach goers.
In the evening we had a small party at the house that everyone prepared with bbq Sardines, salads, Superbock and wine.
Perfect weekend, except JP, Phil and me got the last flight out and Nick and Mick's got delayed so scored an extra day on the reefs at Ericeira!!
2009's European Fish Fry will be held in Lahinch, Ireland. Dates are not yet confirmed but September looks good possibly the 19th, which will give us a good chance of swell and good weather. See you all there!!

Wittering Retro Classic 2008

Seeing I promised to post photo's on the website last October, I thought I should start with the Wittering Retro Challenge.

Considering its not the surf centre of the world they managed a good turnout, I think about 50 competitors and some really classic boards to surf. The on-shore peaked at about 2 ft and the sun was out. Competitors were all in fancy dress, with no care for practicality's, although I noticed some leaving swords, tridents and guitars on the beach.

Batman surfed solidly to win, he returned to South Africa with the 6'8" Black and White Quad Fish first prize signed by the other competitors. It was by no means an easy contest with several hot locals including Nick from Wittering Surf Shop and veterans like John Copley and Simon Tucker in the heats.

Batman (Jonothan) the winner!
